In the Shadow of Giants
In the Shadow of Giants
In Banff, where the peaks reach into the sky,
their majesty reflected in the flowing rivers,
I noticed a small ant with a burden to carry.
The mountains were tall, covered in snow,
rivers like glass, reflecting the sky.
But my attention was drawn to a simpler scene,
an ant, determined, with a task at hand.
He carried his lifeless comrade,
out from their home, through the grand forest,
over pebbles and dirt, with unwavering purpose,
to the Kicking Horse River, through the vast landscape.
Amidst all the splendor, my heart felt a pull,
for this tiny creature, solemn and brave.
In the shadow of giants, often unnoticed,
he laid his friend down in the river’s cold embrace.
The peaks stood silent, the river continued its flow,
as the ant turned away, his duty done.
In a world full of beauty, his sorrow became clear,
a poignant scene, quietly moving my heart.
Though the mountains loom large, and the rivers run wide,
this small act of mourning, within nature's vast expanse,
reminds us of life's tender, fleeting moments,
in the heart of the Rockies, the story of an ant.
